Tanuki’s Trading Post Reopening in New Old Town Lansing Location

Lately Old Town has seen some shake-ups with businesses both closing and opening. Most recently, Blue Owl Coffee Company on Turner Street closed its doors in early February. While the longtime coffee shop did depart Old Town, it can still be found at its locations in East Lansing and REO Town.

Now, another change is coming to the landscape of Old Town Lansing.

Tanuki's Trading Post is Moving to Old Town Lansing

With Blue Owl's departure, that space was available for another business to come in. And now, a new business is moving in: Tanuki's Trading Post.

Tanuki's Trading Post is a hobby and collectibles shop that specializes in anime, manga, and all things Japanese pop culture. And, while new to Old Town, this hobby shop is not new to Lansing.

Tanuki's Trading Post previously located located on Washington Avenue in Downtown Lansing next to Summit Comics. However, it's been temporarily closed since November 2025 to make the move to Old Town and the former Blue Owl space.

When Tenuki's Trading Post Will Reopen

If you've been missing Tanuki's Trading Post while it was closed, the wait is almost over. The new Old Town location will soon welcome patrons with a soft re-opening planned for Friday, March 6. Those familiar with the store will find all the items they're used to, just in a new space.

Old Town has seen a lot of change lately. Businesses like October Moon and Curvaceous Lingerie have left, The Old Town General Store is also preparing to leave. There's a new bakery and cafe; Cinnamon Lane Bakery. And there are more changes still to come, like the addition of the Old Town Cultural Center. Keep an eye on Old Town this year.
