I love supporting local businesses whenever I can. I know exactly where my money is going (it's staying right here in the community), and I'm helping to support a small business as opposed to a giant, faceless entity.

And what's awesome about living in Lansing is that there are lots of ways to "shop small".

Local Lansing Small Businesses

There are plenty of local restaurants, stores, and farms with many ways to support them. You can check out one of the many Mid-Michigan Farmers Markets, or you could try out a local subscription box like this one:

This is a seasonal subscription box you can take part in here in Lansing. It is geared towards those who live in the Eastside and Allen Neighborhood in Lansing, but others can apply as well.

Before the season starts, you can sign-up to take part in the 14-week veggie subscription box. You get to support local farms when you take part in this subscription because they only get food from Lansing area farms, keeping your money right here in your community.

The box comes with an assortment of seasonal veggies each week, plus the option to add on bread, eggs, meats, and more from local farms and artisans.

Here's our veggie box haul this week.

Plus, your weekly veggie box pick-up also comes with a weekly newsletter, letting you know what food you have that week, where it comes from, as well as recipes and tips on the flip side!

That's an inside look at what you'll get from week to week.

I love my veggie box. It takes care of some of the grocery shopping we need to do while also supporting local agriculture and artisans.

If you want to support the community, there are other ways to do it besides a veggie box, if that's nothing something that fits your lifestyle. Check out what you can find at the Meridian Township Farmer's Market and where you can go to pick your own cherries in the galleries below.

Pick Your Own Berry Farms in Mid Michigan

Strawberry season is nearly upon us. Of course, you could go to the grocery store and get some, but why not do something more fun and support local farms at the same time? There are a handful of pick-your-own-berry farms right here in the Mic Michigan area. Check out the gallery below to find out where they are and when they expect berries to be in for the season. Hint: it's coming up soon.
