14 Lansing Area Farmers Markets You Need to Check Out
There's no doubt that supermarkets are definitely convenient. You can get your groceries, home items, clothes, and more all in a one-stop shop. But there's just something about shopping local that can't be beaten. That's why I absolutely love a good farmers market.
Local Farmers Markets
Farmers markets are a treasure trove of all kinds of local goodness. Area farms bring their fresh cuts of meat and in-season fruits and veggies; gardeners bring gorgeous bouquets of flowers; bakers offer fresh pastries; the cheesemonger, of course, offers a fresh selection of cheeses; and the list goes on. There are even artisans that bring their handmade items.
A great farmers market will have a nice variety of all of the above. Maybe even a food truck or two to grab a ready bite to eat.
The last time my husband and I went to a farmers' market, we picked up some beef jerky, homemade peach and blueberry jam, a couple of t-bone steaks, a nice brick of gruyere, and a cute necklace with some pressed forget-me-nots. See what I mean when I say just about everything?
There are two things that I love most about farmers markets. The first is that you know directly where your money is going; it's going right back into the local community. The second is that everything is as fresh as can be because the farmers grow and sell what's in season. So you don't have to worry about something being of poor quality when it comes to fruits and veggies.
