Arctic air is set to invade Michigan early next week, causing temperatures to plummet below zero in much of the state for the first time this season.

Temperatures are expected to be in the negative readings from Monroe to Marquette for at least a couple nights before things begin to moderate to more seasonable temps by the middle of next week, according to most forecasters.

Some areas along the immediate Lake Michigan shoreline may be insulated from the coldest of this particular polar blast. Places like Muskegon may dip close to zero, but may not actually record readings in the negatives.

When Are Temperatures Going to Be Below Zero in Michigan?

WILX News 10 Chief Meteorologist Darrin Rockcole in Lansing says "Arctic air will start its move into Mid-Michigan this weekend with the coldest air in place for Monday and Tuesday. Daytime highs will be in the single digits both days with overnight lows below zero. Wind chills at times could be dangerous in the -10 to -20 range Monday and Tuesday."

AccuWeather concurs, projecting overnight temperatures around -3 both Monday and Tuesday mornings in Lansing. Grand Rapids, Battle Creek and Flint are among Michigan cities that are also expected to record negative low temperatures early next week for the first time this season.

The National Weather Service is in agreement as well, projecting multiple nights of subzero temperatures next week in places like Kalamazoo, Jackson and Saginaw.

Minor fresh snow accumulations may also accompany the frigid temps.
