STOP! Major Driving Distractions We Need To Avoid
We had a few nice days this week, so many people, like myself drive more when the warm weather is here. While I was doing my errands this week in East Lansing, and Okemos. I was planning on getting a little lunch, I started noticing a lot of distracted driving, which I admit I have foolishly done myself.
I saw a young lady at the light next to me texting, unaware the light was green. I saw an elderly lady a few minutes later with an ice cream cone in her hand, as she was reaching for her cell phone. I think with so much on everyone's mind these days we don't realize how unsafe we are being in the car.
This is a big safety issue for all of us, and something we should all be aware of, and pass along to our kids, family and friends. Distracted driving takes a our attention away from driving our car. It’s a serious safety hazard you can avoid by always keeping your attention on the road, other cars, pedestrians, and the controls in your own car.
idrivesafely.com says all distractions endanger driver, passenger and bystander safety. These types of distractions include:
Texting
Talking on the phone
Eating
Drinking
Talking to passengers
Grooming
Looking up directions on a GPS device
Looking at a map
Adjusting the radio, AC, etc.
In other words, basically anything other than driving is considered a distraction. Let's all just play it safe. After all we made it through a very tough period in our life, so why put ourselves, or anyone at risk with the pandemic getting better. The future of our economy is looking so much better, so lets stick around to see it. Drive safe, and happy driving kids.
