You know - there really was an Arthur Treacher. He was a British actor - a long time ago. He played the butler in Shirley Temple movies. But, somehow he ended up lending his name to a chain of "fish and chip" restaurants and in the 70s, Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips were everywhere in the U.S. And then, seemingly overnight - they were gone. What happened to them? According to MeTV, the answer is (partly) two words: "Cod Wars".

At the height of their popularity there were 800 "Arthur Treacher's" in the U.S. Now there are only seven, with four of them in Ohio. One of them used to be on E. Michigan Ave. in Lansing. It's sort of still there. It's still a fish and chips store - just not an official "Arthur Treacher's". Here's the info on Yelp.
