The National Weather Service has issued a RED FLAG WARNING in effect today for residents in Mid-Michigan. What does that mean? Well, according to the NWS a Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. That means that any fires that are started today will have a chance to become a wildfire that spreads quickly and outdoor burning is not recommended.

Officials add that camping, outdoor grills, smoking materials, chain saws and all-terrain vehicles all have the potential to throw a spark and ignite a dangerous and destructive fire during a RED FLAG WARNING. Areas Affected include: Ottawa; Isabella; Kent; Clinton; Mecosta; Ingham; Van Buren; Ionia; Mason; Newaygo; Gratiot; Muskegon; Jackson; Barry; Clare; Montcalm; Osceola; Lake; Kalamazoo; Eaton; Allegan; Calhoun; Oceana.
