Please Welcome The Asian Tiger Mosquito To Michigan…Again
Do you ever have one of those days, or maybe on of those weeks, or maybe even one of those months, years or lives these days where you look around and you wonder, "What's next?"
Just a small snapshot of 2020 so far would include COVID-19, murder bees, dust clouds, big fires and heck, even locusts...so yeah, what could possibly be next? I have it for you right here my friend:
The Asian Tiger Mosquito!
If you didn't say "Huh" like I did when I first heard about this then you must know a lot about mosquitoes, or a lot about a lot. If I were you I'd go with that...
Anyway, according to WLNS-TV these little devils were first discovered in Michigan a couple years ago and now they are back, having been found in Wayne County. The issue here is that the Asian Tiger Mosquito has been known to carry viruses.
I know what you're thinking but no, the mosquito is not known to carry COVID-19 but it can carry other viruses that I can't pronounce that it can pass along to people and one virus that I can pronounce that I'm sure that you have heard about...the Zika virus. Now mind you, the Asian Tiger Mosquitoes that have been found in our state so far are not carrying diseases at this point, but it doesn't mean they won't in the future. In fact, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services suggests that you continue to take precautions against being bitten by all mosquitoes since you never know what those annoying little insects have up their sleeves, or in this case their noses which by the way is called a proboscis. Proboscis...see, I listened real good in school...
