Phillips Orchards Is Bringing Delicious Hard Cider To Lansing
Fall in Michigan is a beautiful time of year. The orchards are open for u-pick apples, the cider is flowing, and the smell of donuts fills the air. And while many orchards specialize in apple cider, not everyone does hard cider (you know, for those of us 21 years and older). But there's a place in St Johns that does, and they're making their way here to Lansing...
Phillips Orchards & Cider Mill
Phillips Orchards has been around since 1852, according to Lansing City Pulse. They've got 170 acres filled with 34 kinds of apples, and they produce some of the yummiest cider and donuts around. One of the more recent additions to their lineup is hard cider.
Phillips added hard cider to the menu in 2019 and has provided consumers with "true artisanal, small-batch cider." However, people had to make the drive to St Johns to get it. Soon, they won't have to leave Lansing.
Phillips Cider Bar in Frandor
I was driving through Frandor to pick up dinner when I noticed a few signs up about Phillips Orchards. Being the curious cat I am, I hopped out of the car and took some pictures.
Based on the sign, it seems like the project is opening a little bit later than anticipated. Brian Phillips, the mill's co-president, does confirm with Lansing City Pulse that they "are waiting for the Building Department to sign off on the plans so permits can be pulled to complete the work we need."

The cider bar is going to be taking over the former pet grooming place at 3000 Vine Street in Frandor. Not only will it have a cider-tasting room, but it will also have a market where patrons can buy fresh cider and baked goods. Their two-part opening is on track for October and November. Here's a little peek inside.
