Philae - the spacecraft sent by the European Space Agency to land on a comet named 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko last November, is sending information to scientists showing an organic-rich black crust, "most likely explained by the presence of living organisms beneath an icy surface". And Rosetta, the spacecraft orbiting the comet has picked up evidence of "strange clusters of organic material that resemble viral particles."

According to The Guardian, 15 years ago, when they designed the mission to land on the comet, everybody laughed when it was suggested  that the lander have instruments on board to test for life forms. But the evidence now is suggesting that they should have put those sensors on board.

Which is how every scary science fiction movie about aliens ever started.
