The Ingham County Animal Control & Shelter has teamed up with The Cat Ambassador to provide food for pets in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The virus and subsequent shutdowns and restrictions have made it harder for people to get the food and supplies they need, including for their pets.

That's where these food banks have come in handy and according to WLNS, have helped feed 44 dogs and 23 cats in the past three weeks.

The food banks are located:

  • Meridian Township farmer's market pavilion - Open Saturdays from noon until 2 p.m.
  • Okemos Community Church - Open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until Noon.

Options for those who wish to donate extra food include donation bins at the Ingham County Animal Control & Shelter as well as Pet Supplies Plus and Pet Smart at their Okemos locations.

However, Pet Supplies Plus and Pet Smart can only allow items purchased from their store to be placed in their donations for safety reasons.

Other humane societies providing help to pet owners include the Capital Area Humane Society and the Humane Society of the United States where you can arrange pick-ups and deliveries.

For any questions regarding the food banks, donations and services you can contact the individual organizations.
