Multiple patrons recently visiting a Michigan waterpark had to be hospitalized due to a HAZMAT situation.

I don't think anyone anticipates needing to go to the hospital while on vacation, but that's what happened to some folks recently while they were at Zehnder's Splash Village in Frankenmuth.

HAZMAT Situation at Michigan Water Park

The incident occurred Tuesday, March 4th at 11:20 am, that's when firefighters and other first-responders arrived to help. Prior to that, 11 individuals (10 guests and 1 employee) had complained of experiences respiratory issues. Things like coughing and shortness of breath.

What was causing this?

Why Did Zehnder's Splash Village Evacuate?

Frankenmuth firefighters discovered that there was a malfunction in the pool chemical feeding system, allowing for a greater concentration of chemicals to flow into the main water park.

At the scene, 11 people were affected, and five of those were taken to the hospital to be given more assessments and to be given treatment. The other six individuals declined treatment.

To keep everyone safe and to correct the situation, there was an evacuation, ventilation of the area, and an emptying and refilling of the entire pool.

Is Zehnder's Splash Village Open?

Zehnder's Splash Village coordinated with the Saginaw Public Health Department to make sure that the area affected, the main waterpark atrium, is now complying with regulations. AKA, yes, Zehnder's is back open and waterpark fun can commence once again.

Zehnder's Splash Village Hotel and Waterpark is in the midst of a multi-million dollar remodel of its facilities, including updated rooms, a new banquet facility, and more.
