The truth is I always wanted to go camping, for some reason it never seems to work out. The first time I would have to go with a crew that knows what they're doing. I mean I was in Cub Scout, but really don't remember much and we never went anywhere more than a day.

The idea of fishing, hiking, and spending the night under the stars is very appealing to me.  Mosquitos, wild animals, and snakes maybe not so much. One thing is for sure we do live in a great state with plenty of beautiful places to enjoy in the great outdoors.

This Campground Known Around The Country

If you love camping here is a place that is ranked the 4th best in the county from upnorthlive.com. In fact. USA Today just ranked it the fourth-best campground in America for 2021. The Platte River Campground inside the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is known around the country and is only about a 3-hour drive from Lansing, about 200 miles away.

Park Rangers there love their job and love telling folks about the endless outdoor recreation opportunities right outside of the campground, including hiking, biking, kayaking, and fishing. They are also RV accessible, tent friendly, and even cater to backcountry campers.

There are 179 sites and about 500 folks camp there nightly.

People discover this place and then it becomes their favorite campground and they just come back year after year,” said Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore park ranger Merrith Baughman. “It’s really gratifying to know this is where people decide to spend their vacation.
