Are you currently in this 'Pure Michigan' stand off of whether or not to turn on the heat?

The Annual Thermostat Showdown

Every fall, Michiganders silently agree that we need to hold off on turning on the heat for as long as possible. Perhaps it's on principle or pride, or maybe you prefer a cooler home with lower heating bills.

Don't get me wrong; you fight it for as long as possible... I know I did.

We had a really chilly day recently where I went through stages of denial before I turned on the heat.

Stages of Denial Before You Cave

  1. "I'll just throw on a sweatshirt and I'll be fine."
  2. "I should try putting on comfy socks and a blanket."
  3. *eats hot soup and grilled cheese for lunch*
  4. "How am I wearing socks AND slippers and I still can't feel my toes?!"
  5. "FINE"

So, yes... I played and lost the "turned on the heat game" for this fall. I tried everything to get warm, but I caved and turned on the heat. Then, in Pure Michigan fashion, we had a series of days where we had highs in the high 70s and low 80s and the heat was off and the A/C was on for a little bit.

So, Have You Turned Your Heat On Yet?

How far will you go before you turn on the heat? Have you caved? Or are you still holding strong?
