Michiganders Find Messages in Bottle From Day Before 9/11
There are only a handful of events in American history that really changed everything after they happened. The bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the JFK assassination in 1963 and September 11th, 2001 are probably the best examples. I have a Christmas card my grandmother got from a friend of hers living in Honolulu. They had a running gag about my grandmother coming to live next door to her in Hawaii. Her friend started the note on the back with, "Dear Henrietta - You still haven't come to live beside me, yet. I think you're safer on the mainland right now." And it's dated December 6, 1941.
So, it would be interesting to see what was on the minds of two high school students right before the attacks of September 11th changed everything in America. According to Fox17online, that's what happened recently on a Lake Michigan beach, between South Haven and Saugatuck. A couple of weeks ago, Amy Gasaway and her daughter Amanda Butler were beach-combing at West Side County Park in Fennville, Michigan when they found a Pepsi bottle. In the bottle was note from a teacher in Clayton, Indiana and letters from two of her AP English students. Two 15-year old boys, writing about what their lives were like. And dated September 10, 2001.
The TV station is trying to track down the two (now) 33-year men to see what their lives are like now. We'll keep you updated.
