Michigan is about to get it’s first velodrome
Michigan's first indoor velodrome will open next Friday, in Detroit. According to MLive.com, the Lexus Velodrome is on Mack Avenue, just a few blocks north of Comerica Park and Ford Field. A velodrome is a track used for racing bicycles, with steeply banked turns. Seriously - it's like a really small NASCAR track - but for bikes. The turns have 50 degree banking!
If you've ever seen Olympic short track bike racing, you've seen a velodrome. And at the velodrome in Detroit, you'll be able to take classes. So you have no excuse now for not making the Olympic team.
This will be only the THIRD indoor velodrome in the U.S. The others are in Colorado Springs and Los Angeles.
Very cool. Here's the story.
