
Early Summer Heat Wave Set to Bring Multiple 90-Degree Days in Michigan
Michigan's first major heat wave of the summer is expected to send temperatures into the 90s for several consecutive days for much of the state beginning this weekend.
Summer officially starts on June 20, and forecasters say high temperatures across the Mitten State are definitely going to make it feel like summer.
Temperature Forecast Comparison for Lansing
For Lansing, there's little variance among the forecasts from WILX News 10, the National Weather Service, and AccuWeather. All of them predict high temperatures in the low to mid 90s Saturday through Tuesday, before a return to more moderate highs in the 80s.
For comparison purposes, the average high temperature in Lansing for the first day of summer is 80° according to AccuWeather.
Heat Index and Outdoor Safety Concerns
WILX News 10 Meteorologist Justin Bradford cautions that there will be other causes for concern beyond the temperatures themselves during this particular heat wave.

"Plenty of sunshine and high humidity could make things a little dangerous for long-term outdoor exposure as the heat index may exceed 100° on occasion," says Bradford.

Weather experts generally consider three or more consecutive days with high temperatures of 90° or higher to be a "heat wave" in Michigan.

Other Michigan Cities Affected by the Heat Wave
Lansing won't be the only Michigan city to experience the effects of the heat wave expected to begin this weekend. Detroit, Grand Rapids and Flint are also forecast to hit 90° or higher for multiple days in a row. Northern Michigan isn't forecast to be quite as warm, with temperatures most of those same days in the 80s to near 90°.
