8 Things to Remember When Visiting Michigan Haunted Houses This Year
There's a chill in the air, the leaves are turning red, and that means that fall is here! When it comes to seasonal activities, fall is nothing if not bountiful. And one of those fun and spooky fall activities that you can take part in is going through a haunted house!
Haunted houses are scary, but that's the whole point! This is the time of year that being scared and everything spooky is wholeheartedly embraced.
If hitting up a haunted house this season, there are some things you want to remember. And I'm not just talking about remember to use the bathroom before you walk through the haunted house.
Here are eight things you need to remember when visiting a Michigan haunted house.
1 - No Touching
First things first—keep your hands to yourself. Most haunted attractions have a no-touch policy. So, don’t touch the actors, other guests, or the spooky props.
2 - Dress Comfortably
Let’s talk wardrobe: wear comfortable, close-toed shoes. Trust me, too many people have lost a flip flop running from guys with chainsaws. And skip the baggy clothes—they’re just waiting to get caught on something.
3 - Arrive Sober
Also, arrive sober. No one needs a tipsy ghost hunter causing chaos. Be in control of your actions and emotions because haunted houses will push your buttons.
4 - Follow the Rules
Follow the rules—posted or not. No running, fighting, or horsing around with the actors. It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt, and you don’t want to be "that person."
5 - Protect Your Valuables
Leave your valuables at home or secure them. Haunted houses aren’t responsible if you drop your phone while screaming or someone snags it when you're not looking. And they're not turning on the lights to help you track down that missing AirPod.
6 - Walk Cautiously
Watch your step—slips, trips, and falls are real, and haunted houses can get dark and slippery.
7 - Be Aware of Health Issues
If a haunted house might mess with your health—whether it’s heart issues, claustrophobia, or asthma—maybe give it a pass. That fake fog and jump scares can send things south fast. And if you feel off, tell someone—no one wants carbon monoxide poisoning as part of their haunted experience.
8 - Kids at Haunted Houses
Finally, if you’re bringing kids, use your head. Is it age appropriate? Younger kids need an adult, and older ones should stick to groups and know the rules. Let’s not have anyone crying in the parking lot afterward (kids or adults, for that matter).
Now go, have fun, and don’t be a haunted house hazard!
