Two picturesque Michigan destinations have been named among the best places to visit in the USA.

World Population Review recently compiled its list of the "Top Places to Visit by State 2024", and identified two locations in each of the 50 states as destinations that should be on all of our bucket lists. Surprisingly (or not), both of Michigan's representatives are in the Upper Peninsula.

These weren't just random choices; there was a little science behind the picks. Data compiled by Expedia was used to determine how many tourists looked to book hotels near certain American attractions. The popularity of internet searches for the attractions was also considered.

The Best Place to Visit in Michigan

According to World Population Review, the best place to visit in Michigan is Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Situated along the shore of Lake Superior, Pictured Rocks hosts throngs of visitors every year who marvel at its cliffs, waterfalls, and pristine white beaches.

Did you know Pictured Rocks was the first National Lakeshore designated in the United States? It's true! Happened in 1966.

The Second-Best Place to Visit in Michigan

Roughly an hour and a half from Pictured Rocks - and also in the Upper Peninsula - is the destination World Population Review deemed to be the second-best place to visit in Michigan: Tahquamenon Falls.

The only time I got to visit Tahquamenon Falls was when I was 4, so I don't remember much beyond the blue souvenir sweatshirts my brother and I came home with.

As World Population Review gushes, it's "the perfect destination for those who want to see relatively untouched woodlands and a cascading waterfall". Tahquamenon Falls happens to be one of the tallest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River.

Photos Taken behind Tahquamenon Falls

One thing many visitors to Tahquamenon Falls cannot say they’ve done is had the chance to go behind the falls and witness what it is like behind this rushing current of beauty. I recently came across photos taken by a gentleman named Dave steward, who actually had the chance to go behind the falls
