Luke Combs Reveals He Didn’t Actually Say ‘Yes’ to His Opry Invitation
Luke Combs didn't actually say "yes" when he was asked to join the Grand Ole Opry recently, but it's not because he's not interested. The "Beer Never Broke My Heart" singer reveals that he was so emotionally overwrought, he didn't end up answering the question at all.
The invitation to join the Opry came by surprise on Tuesday night (June 11) at the end of Combs' Opry performance. Opry members Craig Morgan, John Conlee and Chris Janson were on hand to extend the invitation, which caught him so much by surprise that he admits he was left unable to respond.
“You just never think it’s going to happen,” Combs told reporters afterward (quote via People). “When they asked, I literally couldn’t believe it. I didn’t even know what to say. There’s nothing to say but yes, and I didn’t even say yes. I just cried the whole time. Let me go on the record and say, ‘Yes.’"
Here's a Country Newcomer To Keep An Eye On In 2019:
Combs has become one of the breakout young stars in country music over the course of the past several years. He released his debut album, This One's for You, in 2017, and saw “Hurricane,” “When It Rains It Pours,” “One Number Away,” “She Got the Best of Me” and “Beautiful Crazy” all soar to No. 1, making him the first artist ever to score five consecutive No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart with his first five singles.
Combs is also the first artist to top all five Billboard country charts at the same time, and he was named New Artist of the Year at both the CMA and ACM Awards.
The rising superstar has just released a new EP titled The Prequel, and his latest single, "Beer Never Broke My Heart," is currently in the Top 10.
