I'm gonna be honest, I had no idea that something like this was happening in Michigan. This weekend, around 40 high school students from across the state of Michigan will face off in the state finals of a poetry recitation contest in Lansing. The Michigan Humanities Council and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs will be holding the Michigan 'Poetry Out Loud' State Finals competition at the Crowne Plaza Lansing West on South Creyts Road on Friday, March 1st and Saturday, March 2nd.

Some past 'Poetry Out Loud' winners include students from area schools such as Owosso and Holt. In 2018, Dora Ivkovich from Okemos High School was named a 2017-2018 Poetry Out Loud School Champion. The competition is free and open to the public. The event will be held from 3pm to 5pm on Friday, March 1st and from 8:30am to 11am on Saturday, March 2nd. Check out their Facebook page for more info.
