History has just been made in Michigan, and it's a major touchdown for women in sports. In a monumental stride towards breaking gender barriers in the world of sports, Michigan has proudly announced its first-ever female varsity high school football coach.

Bear Lake High School will welcome Samantha Mullet to the sidelines this year as the new Head Coach of the varsity football team for its upcoming season. With an impressive background and an unwavering passion for the game, the 2013 Bear Lake alum is already proving that the gridiron has no gender boundaries.

Mullett, or Coach Sam as she is known, isn't new to the football world. According to reports, she did a summer internship with the Baltimore Ravens and spent some time with the Buffalo Bills coaching linebackers before she returned to Bear Lake to coach the defensemen before landing her gig as head coach.

"Some may be surprised she put aside her NFL trek for a high school position, but to Mullett, it makes perfect sense", she told WZZM News.  "I want to give back to them, and I want to give these kids the best opportunity and show them that being from a small town isn't a crutch or an excuse or something to hold you back."

She's not just breaking the glass ceiling; she's shattering it, paving the way for future generations of women to follow their dreams on the field.

Coach Sam and her team will kick off their season on the road on Friday, August 25th, against Bellaire.
