Boblo Island Revisited! Stay in Stunning Airbnb on the Historic Island
It was the place that made summer even better. From the exciting boat ride to the island filled with thrills, chills, and fun, a trip to Boblo Island was what childhood was all about in Michigan. Now you've got a chance to head back to the island.
This amusement park island, located just above the mouth of the Detroit River, welcomed guests from Michigan and the shores of Canada from 1898 until its closure on September 30, 1993. Families would board the famous "Bob-Lo boats" and make their way to the island for a day filled with fun and memories.
Once considered the Coney Island of Detroit as an amusement park, today the 272-acre island is a private community. According to information, the entire north side of the island is completely developed with around 150 houses and condos. There are plans to more than double that as expansion begins to the south side of the island

Residents and visitors are now welcomed to Bois Blanc Canada via the under five-minute car ferry ride from Amherstburg, Ontario. Aside from those who live there, and their guests, not many have had a chance to return to Boblo Island...until now.
The Boblo Island Airbnb
The is currently an Airbnb available to book on the island, and it's reported it is the only available rental on Bois Blanc currently. The charming 3 bedroom and 3 bathroom home is billed as the perfect place to book a stay.
"After spending the day discovering historic Amherstburg or visiting local wineries, a short three-minute ferry ride will transport you back to this island where you can kick back and relax in this calm, stylish space."
Although the listing doesn't indicate the Airbnb is located on the former Boblo Island, the word is slowly getting out. Owners/ hosts Melissa and Dave Buzzeo recently talked about the unique property telling Click on Detroit,
“There are a lot of people who have sought us because they used to come to the island,” said Melissa Buzzeo. “As soon as they saw there was a rental to bring their family and share some of the memories, they found us, and they’ve come.”
The rental will run you about $246 a night and yes, there are still remnants of Boblo still around. The original island lighthouse and the restored Blockhouse that was used in the War of 1812 are still standing. Island owner Amico told Click on Detroit that The Blockhouse contains various artifacts that have been found on the island over the years and are now on display.
