10-Mile Stretch of Michigan Highway Among Deadliest in America
There are times in Michigan when the posted speed limit is really the suggested minimum. This is the hardest lesson to learn when driving through some of the state's most crowded and highly-traveled areas. You'd think as traffic increases, we'd slow down. Nope. Ask anyone who has driven through Detroit at any time of the day. The 70 MPH post signs are scoffed at as motorists zoom past at well over 80.

This combination of speed and densely populated vehicles makes a 10-mile stretch of highway near Detroit the deadliest in the state. However, that doesn't mean it's Michigan's Deadliest Highway.
The Deadliest Highway in Michigan
According to research conducted by Car Insurance Comparison, while it isn't home to Michigan's deadliest 10-mile stretch, U.S. 10 is Michigan's deadliest highway, averaging 31 fatal crashes annually.
U.S. 10 was once a cross-country highway, stretching from Detroit, Michigan, to Seattle, Washington, crossing Lake Michigan in Ludington and continuing the journey in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
The Deadliest 10-Mile Stretch of Road in Michigan and Every State in America
While not the deadliest in the country, Michigan ranks 7th for most fatal accidents within a 10-mile stretch of highway. Though I thought for sure Florida would be number one, they feel short at number two, just behind Texas.
