Since moving to the west side of the state after living on the east side, my entire life, I didn’t realize how big of a deal driving movie theaters were. Here in Southwest Michigan, we have multiple options when it comes to drive-in theaters and it’s an experience that became even more popular once the pandemic began, and we were all looking for creative ways to socially distance yet stay entertained.

Michigan only has eight driving movie theaters and one of the most. If not the most popular one in the state is now up for sale. That’s right, for $625,000, you have the chance of owning the Cherry Bowl drive-in.

Located just outside of Traverse City at 9812 Honor Highway in Honor, Michigan, the Cherry Bowl is one of the longest running, and as we learned, the largest drive-in in northern Michigan as the listing details:

This is your chance to own a special piece of Benzie County history. This historic 275 parking spot Drive-In movie theatre is one of only 8 that are left in the state of Michigan. Opened in 1953, this retro-themed theatre allows you to take a trip down memory lane. From classical cartoons to the diner-style concession stand building, you are reminded of what 1950s living was like. Before the show begins, enjoy the mini golf course or toss the frisbee around with the family.

The business sits on over 10 acres and the purchase of the property also includes a pole barn for storage and office space. The owners say picture throw is 100 yards from the projection booth, making it Northern Michigan's largest movie screen.
