MSU Names Kevin Guskiewicz New School President
The Michigan State University Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Friday morning to name University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz as the school's new president.
Guskiewicz replaces interim president Teresa Woodruff, who took over for former president Dr. Samuel Stanley last year. Stanley resigned his position last year due to numerous conflicts with the MSU Board of Trustees.
Kevin will be the 22nd president in the history of Michigan State University. He had this to say about coming to East Lansing:
“I am eagerly looking forward to working with all Spartans to build on this great university’s strong historical foundation, I intend to foster a culture of collaboration and, by working together, we can propel MSU to even greater eminence through its powerful commitment to student success, knowledge discovery and land-grant service.”
His term as president will begin on March 4th, 2024. He will also be a professor in kinesiology when he gets here.
MSU Board of Trustees president Rema Vassar also commented on the appointment:
“Kevin Guskiewicz will assume the presidency of Michigan State University with a wealth of experience and the vision required to advance the university along its trajectory of excellence, his extensive background in higher education positions him well to champion our strategic initiatives, and the board and I look forward to working with him.”
The search process for a new president to replace Dr. Stanley began last spring with a 29-person search committee, which included longtime men's basketball coach Tom Izzo, and now concludes with Friday's announcement.
