One week of the Michigan high school football playoffs is now in the books.  And after last weekend's action, there are ten area teams still alive for state titles.  Nine in 11-Player football, and one (Portland St. Patrick) in 8-Player football.

We had some close ballgames involving area teams last weekend.  Lansing Catholic stopped a two-point conversion in the final seconds to upset Michigan Center on the road, 35-34.  Ovid-Elsie advanced past Ida at home, 14-3, in a defensive struggle.  In a mild upset, Bath knocked out arch-rival Laingsburg at home, 16-14.  Fowler missed a two-point conversion with 2 minutes left and lost to Ithaca, 28-27.

And we had two close games in 8-Player football.  Deckerville scored with 11 seconds left to beat Morrice, 46-40.  And Portland St. Patrick outlasted Fulton at home, 42-34, to advance to Round 2.

We do have a few local teams playing against each other this week in the district finals.  In Division 3, DeWitt heads to Mason in a rematch from Week 2.  In Division 6, 4-6 Lansing Catholic is at Ovid-Elsie.  And in Division 7, Bath is at Pewamo-Westphalia.  That's a rematch from Week 2.

We will have the DeWitt at Mason game this Friday night on The Game 730 AM WVFN.  Pregame coverage begins at 6:00pm with interviews with both coaches as well as Brian Calloway from the Lansing State Journal.  And then just before 7:00pm, it's coverage of the game from Mason High School with Brock Palmbos and Erik "Doc" Love.
