Spring Break is right around the corner, and for Michiganders it's the perfect excuse to get out of the house and away from the snow. Whether you're a college student, or taking your own students out on an adventure, you're likely trying to find a place that's easy to get to and full of people you may already know.
The team at AirportParkingReservations.com analyzed search data about spring break about each of the most popular destinations from February to May to show what places we are likely to visit this year.
So if you're looking to vacation where you may run into your friends in neighbors, these are the top ten destinations that Michiganders are most likely to visit:
10. San Juan (4,800 searches)
9. Cancun (5,520 searches)
8. Montego Bay (tied, 5,880 searches)
7. Maui (tied, 5,880 searches)
6. Myrtle Beach (6,000 searches)
Meanwhile the top five include some pretty awesome spots that you may want to look into booking before it's too late.
5. South Padre Island (6,240 searches)
South Padre Island is a resort town on the south eastern tip of Texas. While it's more of a long strip of land than a traditional island, it's a popular Spring Break destination that offers tons of options for entertainment without breaking your budget.
4. Cabo San Lucas (7,440 searches)
Cabo is a party city, so naturally it's making a lot of people's list for Spring Break. If you can't dip your toes in Lake Michigan you might as well enjoy the Gulf of Mexico, which is basically the same thing only warmer.
3. Punta Cana (12,240 searches)
Punta Cana is the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic and it's absolutely breathtaking. They offer tons of resorts and golf, so it's perfect for a tropical getaway that doesn't require a lot of planning beforehand.
2. Las Vegas (12,360 searches)
While I know Las Vegas is generally cheap to fly to, I have a feeling this one made the list more for the fact that people were looking to see if the Lions would give them an excuse to head to the Super Bowl which is in the city during that time. Either way, it's still a great tourist destination even if you're not going for the big game.
1. New Orleans (35,160 searches)
New Orleans won by a landslide when it came to places Michiganders are looking to visit, and it's easy to see why. The fun-loving city is perfect for a college spring break, which falls right around Mardi Gras. Grab some King Cake, beads and a frozen drink and have a blast.
