West Michigan Organization Heads To Maui To Help Pets After Devastating Fire
If you've been paying attention to the news at all in the past week, you've seen some devastating photos and videos from the destruction caused by the Wildfires that ravaged the Maui city of Lahaina.
It's been heartbreaking to hear about people losing their homes, businesses, and the aftermath of the damage that will only continue to grow as time goes on.
Lots of people have been asking how they can help the residents of the island as they rebuild their lives, but a West Michigan organization is stepping in to help the pets that have been effected by the fires.
The Bissell Pet Foundation shared earlier this week that they are on site in Maui, helping with the rescue and identification of missing pets now that the fires have ended.
Right now those who are on the island working on the behalf of the Bissell Pet Foundation are doing the heartbreaking work of identifying the remains of pets and scanning their microchips in order to inform their owners, as well as finding pets who survived and trying to get them home to their families, or to a new family if their family isn't findable.
They issued a statement about their efforts, and how they hope to help those effected in their own way.
We are holding the people and pets of Maui in our hearts. We are unsure what the next few weeks will bring, but we will continue to be there for them with your support.
You can also help the Bissell Pet foundation from here in West Michigan with their mission in Maui by donating. They've set up a website that will allow you to know your money will be helping pets in Maui during this difficult time.
