Grand Rapids Golf Course to Add New Restaurant, Event Center
A Grand Rapids golf course is getting some major upgrades!
The Mines, an 18-hole public golf course at 330 Covel Ave. SW, is adding a new restaurant and an event center for weddings, parties, and more.
According to Crain's Grand Rapids, The Mines' owners are planning to break ground on the project at the end of September.
The 15,000-square-foot building will hold a 260-person event space and a restaurant with room for 75 people. The restaurant will also have an outdoor space for 100 people that will feature live entertainment.
While a name for the new restaurant has yet to be announced, owner Chris Sobieck tells Crain's Grand Rapids it will be upscale and family-friendly. Expect menu items like burgers, sandwiches, and pizza.
As far as the event center, it will be called Gypsum Event Center - so like The Mines, it is named after the gypsum mines below the location.
According to Crain's, Sobieck says,
We’re so close to (downtown) Grand Rapids. We’re five to seven minutes (away), so it’s a unique property that when you get to us, you feel like you’ve gone to Traverse City... It’s a really nice atmosphere we feel that’s going to be attractive to people. You can get back in the city really quickly with good access to great hotels. It’s going to be a nice building that can accommodate all levels.
The project is expected to be completed by Memorial Day 2024.
