Have you ever heard of the "cat distribution system"?  It's the idea that the universe is giving you a cat, deeming you special, rather than you choosing you are getting a cat. Like, for example, you find a random kitten in the engine of your car. Bam, that's your cat now.

Last week it was my turn to be on the receiving end of the CDS after this little kitten was out in the woods, crying, and was very thin. We took her home, gave her her first meal in who knows how long, and just looked at each other and said "Now what?"

So we called our friends who work at a shelter and they said we needed to get her checked for a chip. How do you go about doing that? It's actually very easy and completely free.

Chip Checking In Michigan

If you come across what appears to be a stray animal, it's important to check for a microchip in the animal before deciding to keep it. More times than not, the animal is most likely just lost from its home.

The easiest thing to do is bring the animal to a veterinarian or local shelter. They can check the animal and see if it has a chip or not with a scanner. If it does, the vet/shelter can call the place the chip is registered to and let them know their animal was found.

The owner can decide from there what to do with the animal. Whether you reunite a family or start one of your own, talking to a vet is super important.
