Check Your Fridge: Deadly Dairy Products Recalled In Michigan

Product recalls are something that we deal with on what seems to be a daily basis, as there can be recalls on children's toys, food items, entire vehicles or just their parts, and so much more. Granted, I am extremely thankful for these recalls no matter the product because it means government agencies like the FDA, CDC, NHTSA, and more are doing their jobs in evaluating products to ensure they are safe for use or digestion. Sometimes, they aren't always beating the clock and we see recalls come to items that have already caused injury or worse.

That's the case for the most recent recall that the entire country is seeing, right before the Super Bowl weekend. There is a nationwide recall that was enacted due to 23 hospitalizations and 2 deaths within the recent months, which now has the entire country on alert and scavenging their fridges to make sure they are safe. The worst part about this recall is that this isn't the first time that this strain has been studied, but they were finally able to find the source, which isn't the first time they've been recalled either.

Michigan, head into your kitchen and check your fridges ASAP as there are dairy products that could cost you your life. Cheese and sour cream products from Rizo Lopez Foods have been recalled from shelves all over the country. Those brands are:

• Tio Francisco
• Don Francisco
• Rizo Bros
• Rio Grande
• Food City
• El Huache
• La Ordena
• San Carlos
• Campesino
• Santa Maria
• Dos Ranchitos
• Casa Cardenas
• and 365 Whole Foods Market

This is not the first recall of Rizo-López Foods Inc. products related to Listeria, according to the CDC investigation as its aged Cotija cheese was recalled in early January after Hawaii state officials found Listeria in the product.

Listeria And It's Symptoms

These products from been recalled due to having trace amounts of bacteria by the name of Listeria. Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause serious, sometimes fatal, infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms typically begin within two weeks after eating contaminated food but may start as early as the same day or as late as 10 weeks after, according to the CDC.

The infection can have the following symptoms show up in adults or children:

• fever
• muscle aches
• excessive tiredness
• severe headache
• nausea
• stomachache
• or diarrhea.

What To Do With Recalled Products?

As always you have a couple of options as to what to do with your recalled items, you can return them to the store you got them from for a full refund or you can simply just discard them and count the money as a loss since you still have your life. Also, for this specific recall since it is different than the others, you should clean out your fridge and any containers or other things the products may have come in contact with. This is because listeria can survive in the fridge and spread to other foods.
