What do you do for fun up north when it's that time between winter and spring? You chainsaw a block of ice out of the river, grab some beers and take a float trip with your friends. And hope that your man-made "iceberg" doesn't melt underneath you.

According to MLive.com, the experts say timing is key. The ice has to still be thick enough to support all (or most of) your friends. Last week, in Leland, the ice was about 8 inches thick when Jeff Cockfield and his friends floated down the river in town there. Jeff suggests packing a pirate flag so you can board other bergs and (I'm assuming) capture their beer.
