Getty Drive-In Opening for the Season on Friday
You know summer is around the corner when the drive-in opens, and West Michigan's only drive-in theater opens this weekend.
Getty Drive-In in Muskegon is kicking off their 77th season with a bunch of new movies and double features to please all movie lovers. Their schedule for the weekend (Fri-Sun) is:
- Godzilla vs Kong and The Little Things
- Nobody and John Wick (2014)
- Tom & Jerry and The Iron Giant (1999)
- Voyagers and Chaos Walking
All films are shown at 9 p.m.
Getty actually just ended their longest season yet this past January. After the pandemic forced movie theaters to close, drive-in's became popular again. The normal season for Getty is April through about Halloween.
The drive-in plans on keeping some of those COVID-19 protocols in place such as operating on a 50% capacity and accepting only credit cards. Guests are also encouraged to pre-purchase tickets online -- which will also get you through the line quicker. Luckily, the concession stand is open and so is delivery to your car.
While there were "pop-up" drive-in's throughout the pandemic, Getty Drive in prides themselves on keeping things classic. The theater's General Manager said in a statement,
Kids run around barefoot, set up camp chairs and string hammocks between cars when the weather is nice. It’s a different and fun way to experience a movie (via GRMag).
The Getty Drive-In is located at 520 E. Summit Ave. in Muskegon. Check here for a list of FAQ's and to purchase your tickets. Stay up-to-date with the latest on the theatre's Facebook page.
