Gander Mountain Goes Bankrupt – What Michigan Stores Will Be Affected?
Here's the bad news: Gander Mountain has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. According to the Lansing State Journal, the company announced Friday that it was closing 32 of it's 162 stores.
The good news? None of the stores closed will be in Michigan.
Gander Mountain has 13 stores in Michigan. As you may know, last October the new 52,000 square foot Gander Mountain opened in Delta Township. It makes sense that even if some stores in Michigan closed anytime soon - the Delta Township location would be spared. The company is in talks to sell and hope to have the deal done by the middle of May.
The reasons for bankruptcy right now? The company statement said, "under performing stores and unproductive, excess inventory." So, buy some hunting or fishing "inventory" and help the local economy. Thanks.
