Good news for history buffs and people who like cannons - Fort Mackinac on Mackinac Island and Colonial Michilimackinac (did I spell it right? I think I did) in Mackinaw City, are about to re-open and celebrate 125 years of the Mackinac State Historic Parks.

Colonial Michilimackinac at the very northern tip of lower Michigan (the Mackinac Bridge is right on top of their visitor center and gift shop - and when I say right on top - I mean it) is opening on June 12th. I'm a big fan - but I'm also a history nerd. It's a trip back to 1777. When I was there a few years ago they were still doing archaeological digs and discovering new things. Great museum - and they shoot that cannon several times a day. You will need your mask and some social distance - because it's 2020, not 1777.

Fort Mackinac will be opening a week later - on Friday, June 19th. On June 25th they'll have a special event called "Fire At Night" - with the Fort Mackinac rifles and their cannon. This will happen at sunset, which, on Mackinac Island in June is 9 p.m. (the ferry service isn't running that late yet - but my guess is they will be by then - or you could just stay on the island, have a couple of adult beverages - I don't want to plan out the whole night for you - you do you)

Anyway, stuff is opening up again and it's summer in Michigan. Now, if I could just get a haircut.
