Former Michigander Kate Upton May Get Rid of All the Coyotes
If you've spent anytime outdoors in Michigan, you know we have a lot of coyotes. In fact, coyotes have become a problem all over the country. Good news - supermodel and wife of former Detroit Tiger Justin Verlander, Kate Upton, may have provided the solution.
Thanks to St. Joseph, Michigan's own Kate wearing a parka trimmed with coyote fur in 2013, the price of coyote pelts has been skyrocketing. The parka the lovely Mrs. Verlander wore on the cover of the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition (see above) was from a company called Canada Goose. According to CNBC.com, celebrities and fashionistas (like you and me, obviously) have fallen in love with these coyote fur-trimmed Canada Goose parkas and don't care that the parkas retail for more than $1,000 (this just in - I may not be a fashionista)
Once the Canada Goose parkas took off, other companies decided to make their own versions. And the price of coyote pelts has gone up accordingly. The price of a western coyote pelt these days is about $100. The eastern coyotes that we have around here are about half that, because their fur isn't as nice - but bad weather out west and maybe a smaller number of western coyotes this year may drive up the price of eastern coyote pelts.
So, load up that varmint gun and get out there. Good luck - and thank you, Kate.
