The price of owning and driving a car is about to go up in Michigan. On January 1st, the registration fees and gas tax will go up.

The state plans to use the extra money raised for state and county road maintenance.

According to the Free Press, the state registration fees will go up about 20% and the gas tax will go up by 7.3 cents a gallon.

Since car registration comes up on your birthday, if you have a birthday in the next six months, you might want to take care of registering your vehicle(s) now to beat the price increase.

I look forward to our beautiful, pothole free roads. (No, I'm serious. Quit laughing.)
