Costco announced it will start paying minimum wage employees $16 dollars an hour beginning next week. Unfortunately there are no Costco stores in Genesee County or Lapeer County, but with this wage increase - you might want to make the drive to Brighton if you are looking for a job.

I should back up, because Costco has been paying their employees above minimum wage for the last few years. According to CNN, in 2018 the company was paying $14 dollars and hour in 2018 and $15 dollars an hour in 2019. That being said, I know there will be plenty of people that will say 'Get ready for prices to increase at Costco'. I have never been in a Costco, so I have no opinion on that. What I do know about Costco is they do sell one hell of a chocolate cake. If you are making a Costco run anytime soon, treat yourself - it is the best.

I had no idea how many Costco stores were in Michigan until now. These are the locations that I found, if there are more - let me know.

  • Auburn Hills
  • Bloomfield
  • Brighton
  • Commerce
  • East Lansing
  • Grand Rapids
  • Kalamazoo
  • Livonia
  • Traverse City

What are your thoughts on the possibility of a federal minimum wage increase of $15 dollars for everyone? I am interested in hearing from business owners, as well as those of you making the current minimum wage. It would definitely change things for both employers and employees, most likely in different ways.
