What’s Going on With Kirkland Brand Baby Formula in Michigan?
First, I would like to preface this whole thing with the fact that this is just my experience and I needed a moment to rant. I do not want to cause a panic, as there is nothing to panic about. I'm just feeling frustrated, and I'm sure there are others out there who are sharing in my frustration. So, on to the big issue at hand...
What the heck is going on with the Kirkland brand baby formula in Michigan?
Kirkland Brand Baby Formula
I will openly say that my baby is a Costco girlie. She drinks Kirkland brand formula and she has from the start, and it works great for us.
Like every other product that Costco has a dupe of, the formula is the same or better than its counterparts (Similar and Enfamil) and it's less than half the price! That's a win-win in my book.
The problem with the product is not the product itself, but the fact that none of the Costco stores in Michigan have any at the moment. And I'm not speaking in hyperbole, I mean it... Costco does not have any Kirkland brand baby formula at the moment.
Why is Costco Brand Baby Formula Out of Stock?
The hubby and I did our usual bi-monthly Costco trip over the weekend and one of the things we needed was baby formula. To our shock and dismay, we didn't see any on the floor. So, I asked customer service if another store had some or if we could order it online, and we learned that "no" was the answer to both of those questions.
I decided to look on the website again, just to see if anything had changed, and nope... still no Kirkland brand formula. In fact, the product doesn't even come up as "sold out" or "currently out of stock", it just doesn't come up when searched at all (the product number is 1562719 if you're curious).
We ended up having to buy Similac, which cost twice as much as the Kirkland brand. In fact, Similac came with two ounces less, but still twice the price!
My rant is coming to a close, but... what the heck Costco? I hope that whatever is going on gets figured out soon because I know I'm not the only person who has run into this same issue, and it really stinks.
Okay, rant over.
What to Do if There's Another Baby Formula Shortage
Last year Americans faced a huge baby formula shortage due to recalls and supply chain issues. If that were to happen again, you want to make sure you can feed your baby, but you don't want to make your own formula.
Instead, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has information for families on what to do in the face of a shortage. You can read more about different resources, HERE.
