Applying For Jobs? Here are Some Helpful Tips
I know how stressful it can be looking for a job. My job was eliminated in Detroit last April and even though I was in Clearwater Beach, Florida all summer, I was nervous about finding my next job and wanted to be totally prepared. I'm so grateful to be in my new home in Lansing at 100.7 WITL with my morning cohost Erica Gray.
Seems the job market is getting so much better than it was at the beginning of the pandemic. Yesterday panelists from "Capitol Michigan Area Works" talked about what people applying for jobs should know, like networking and picking the right employer according to Fox 47.
Fidelity has some great job hunting tips too. For all of you out there who are currently on the job market, I hope at least one of the items below is helpful!
Make sure you're clear on what you want. What kind of atmosphere are you looking for? Where do you want to live? What's your ideal position?
Research your target companies. Pick the top 10 companies you want to work for and look into them. This will also help you when it comes time to interview.
Tailor your resume to each job. Some jobs require special experience, so you want to make sure you highlight what that job may be looking for.
Make sure your online presence reflects who you are. Use your social media accounts like LinkedIn to showcase your expertise and style.
Get organized. Take time to develop a system that works for you in organizing your job search.
Don't limit yourself to online applications. Do not rely on only applying online. You're limiting yourself and the company might be in the final interview stage. The job might have even been filled. Apply in person too.
Be kind to yourself. Looking, as I said, can be stressful. So meditate, exercise, watch a movie and find ways to unwind. Spend time with family and friends for support.
Happy job hunting and remember to have fun doing it!
