On Monday. a kayaker found a four-foot alligator swimming in Lake Michigan, near the city of Waukegan, Illinois. According to NBC News, the kayaker (who at first thought he'd come upon a dead salmon and then thought it might be a toy) called 911 with the news and officials were able to find and capture the alligator.

The alligator was taken to a "wildlife center" in Lake Forest, Illinois, where an official said the gator was, “on borrowed time", and wouldn't have survived much longer as the lake got colder.

No word yet on where the alligator came from. My guess is there are more (and bigger) gators living in the same place as all those great white sharks in Lake Michigan.

And, with the warm weather today, if you're headed to Grand Haven for a day at the beach - watch out for the alligators.
