A Selfie with The Dean

Without question, WILX-TV Sports Anchor Tim Staudt is a Mid-Michigan broadcasting icon. He's experienced, knowledeable, consistent...and seemingly unflappable. The unflappable part was what I thought I'd test at our recent company Christmas party.

Tim of course was in attendance at the party because for years he has been a part of our company, hosting his own midday sports talk program on our sister-station, WVFN.

While having a conversation with some others at the party I happened to look around and spot Tim sitting with his back turned to us, talking on his cell phone. I said, "Hey watch this, I'm going to get one of me and Tim and see what happens" getting a few laughs from everyone as I pulled my smartphone out to get a suprise "selfie" with Mr. Staudt.

The joke was on me.

As I ran over to get my "selfie", Mr. Staudt, who couldn't have known what was coming and without missing a beat with his phone conversation or with what was happening before him, simply leaned over, got in the picture, and then went on about his business. That was all, no big deal. Yes, he was indeed unflappable.

Of course I stood there diffused holding my smartphone because my "surprise" backfired and I got schooled. However, I did get a pretty cool photo.

I may try this "surprise selfie" thing with other well-known people in the future, just for the heck of it, and post the results here.

I just hope everyone is as good a sport about it as The Dean.
