Jase Bowen, who we told you last month might be the next Kirk Gibson, due to the fact that he was recruited by State to play baseball and football, has decided to play pro baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He will not be attending Michigan State. Jase, out of Toledo Catholic Central, was taken in the 11th round of the MLB draft by the Pirates. On Wednesday night he was assigned to play for Bradenton of the Gulf Coast League.

Meanwhile, according to the Detroit Free Press, the Spartan's other two-sport signee, Adam Berghorst, from Zeeland East High School, was taken in the 14th round of the MLB draft by the Texas Rangers. Adam is a pitcher who also signed to play defensive end for Mark Dantonio at State. Adam will be pitching in the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association East vs. West All-Star Game at Comerica Park, tonight. He has until July 12th to sign a contract with the Rangers. He's told the Press that he'll make that decision in the next week.

Good luck to both of them, no matter what happens.
