When I think about the American Red Cross, I think of disaster relief in other places, not necessarily closer to home. I guess the reason is that the Red Cross is such a huge operation that does lots of big things helping when disaster strikes and you always hear about them being everywhere.

Well, disaster relief is what the Red Cross is helping with in Shiawassee County as the result of last week's tornado. Residents are in need and the Red Cross is doing what they do best, assisting people in need with food, emergency relief, health services and more.

According to News 10, Red Cross volunteers were helping in the area that was hit by the tornado on Thursday evening. Many were affected in the area as their homes were covered with fallen tree debris.

The American Red Cross said they are committed to help the residents of Shaiwassee County.
