It's been a big week around here for bugs. We've already introduced you to the do-it-yourself spider rifle/vacuum. Today we present the world's largest aquatic insect. The giant dobsonfly, native to China and Vietnam, was already known to scientists, but now villagers in central China have come forward with some "unusually large specimens". The largest wingspan on one of the specimens was 8.27 inches. I believe the CNN.com article says that's "large enough to cover the face of a human adult".

And since it's native to Vietnam, this is another reason to thank anybody you know who served in the armed forces over there.

Sleep tight and happy dreams.
