The Michigan Capital Police Unity Team was organized in 1997. It's a group of law enforcement officers throughout the state of Michigan that want to increase public awareness of police officers who have died in the line of duty and to honor their sacrifices. The group consists of officers from the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, Lansing Police Department, Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State University Police Department and Carson City Police Department.

This year, the members of the team will be participating in a charity bicycle ride from New Jersey to Washington, DC in May 2015, and are in need of donations. The team will be riding in memory of Ingham County Sheriff Deputy Grant Whitaker who passed away while on duty on December 7th, 2014. The secondary purpose of the ride is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC.
