Good news for fans of space borne entertainment (and aren't we all?) The Lyrid meteor shower is happening the early part of this week, peaking early Wednesday morning. And what better science project for at-home schooling than a field trip to your backyard to watch for meteors?

Yes, we will have to get some breaks in the weather, BUT, if we do, we should see some meteors, through Thursday morning - without a lot of interference from the moon. According to EarthSky.org, people have been watching meteors from this shower, coming from Comet Thatcher, for over 2700 years, back to the time of Confucius. So, as you're watching, come up with something profound to say.

This shower will be visible high in the sky, from midnight to dawn, with the best viewing from away from city lights. (This is why it's good to have friends with farms)
