El Nino is going to affect this winter's weather.

El Nino occurs when a part of the Pacific Ocean warms abnormally, which affects weather worldwide.

In the southwestern U.S., this El Nino should bring higher amounts of rain this winter which will help some of the areas that have been drought-stricken. According to MLive.com, in Michigan, we (should) get warmer temperatures and less snow. Not that it won't be cold and we won't get any snow - it should just be a kinder and gentler winter around here.

And all because a patch of water in the Pacific Ocean has warmed up. That Mother Nature - she's crazy.
