Ohio State's aspirations for the upcoming college football season have been dealt a serious blow.

ESPN reports senior quarterback and Heisman Trophy contender Braxton Miller will miss the season due to a right, throwing shoulder injury sustained Monday during a non-contact portion of practice. Ohio State had been handling Miller delicately since he had surgery on that same shoulder in February.

Miller passed for more than 2,000 yards and 24 touchdowns to just seven interceptions last season. He also ran for almost 1,100 yards and 12 more touchdowns.

A duo of untested underclassmen are left at the helm for the fifth-ranked Buckeyes. Redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett is expected to take over for Miller as the starter, even though he's never attempted a pass in a college game. Behind Barrett will be redshirt sophomore Cardale Jones, who has thrown two passes in NCAA gameplay.
